Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

What are group categories and how do they work?

Group categories allow you to maintain multiple sets of groups, and to easily switch between those groups.

In order to add a new category, select the groups and arrange them in the order you desire in the active list. Then enter the category name in the combo box and press Add.

To modify an existing category, first select the category you with to modify. Then modify the groups in the active list and press Update.

Why do I still get some duplicate files? Isn't the history feature working?

The download history is built with the actual filename encoded in the article downloaded. Since it is very inefficient to stop downloading an article once it's started, it's not possible to compare the actual filename in the upcoming article to the history list. Therefore, PictureAgent looks for a match in the subject line. There are two main problems with this. One is that spammers often put a different filename in the subject than what is actually encoded in the article. The other is that some articles (mostly MIME) don't contain the filename in the subject line.

The history feature of PictureAgent minimizes the occurrences of repeat files. Additionally, subject lines are maintained in a list during each session, and if there is a match, PictureAgent skips all subsequent articles with that same subject line.
